Giosuè Colella talks about his company

The Colella Giosuè Farm was officially established in 1824, but its roots go much further back. As early as 1747, the first generations of the family, recorded among the noble families of Forio d’Ischia, had already begun agricultural activities closely tied to the land and winemaking.

 

Documentary confirmation comes from the birth record of Onofrio Colella, where his father’s occupation changes from “laborer” to “farmer.” From that moment on, the company’s entrepreneurial identity began to take shape, although its true origins remain deeply connected to a family passion that started decades earlier.

 

The Colella family has always believed in the enhancement of the Ischian territory, preserving a strong bond with their land and a craft that is not just about business, but also culture, heritage, and identity.

Agricultural and Winemaking Identity

With a cultivated area of 2 hectares in the Forio area, the farm grows grapes, olive trees, and orchards. It produces around 300 quintals of grapes per year, processed directly on-site in the winemaking facility.

Giosuè prefers to maintain an artisanal approach to production, valuing manual work and a direct connection with the land. In a territory like Ischia, with its unique morphology, every manual intervention becomes an integral part of the final quality.

The crops follow the natural rhythms of the seasons, avoiding forcing techniques, to ensure an authentic product in harmony with the environment.

Alongside this, a second artisanal workshop is dedicated to producing jams, following seasonal availability and crafted entirely by hand.

“Suonn” Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Giosuè’s dream in a bottle

The name “Suonn” means “Dream” in the Neapolitan dialect: a tribute to Giosuè Colella’s determination to keep producing high-quality olive oil, despite the logistical and economic challenges that over the years have led to the disappearance of local olive mills.

The Suonn extra virgin olive oil is made from Frantoio, Leccino, and Nocellara cultivars, harvested using combs from November to February. The extraction is carried out cold using a disc crusher and centrifuge, without filtration, to preserve the oil’s natural aromas.

It shows a straw yellow color with green reflections, with a light fruity aroma and hints of artichoke and fresh-cut grass, along with a gently bitter taste and a finish reminiscent of fresh olives.

This oil is ideal for vegetables, legumes, and meats, and can be stored for up to 24 months if kept away from light and heat sources.

For Giosuè, “Suonn” is more than just a product—it’s a cultural mission: to share with the world the authentic quality of an Ischian olive oil, born from manual work, dedication, and deep respect for the land.
