Paolo May portrays the Aragonese Castle as seen from the Fiaiano pine forest, one of the most scenic viewpoints on the Island of Ischia. This 3D artwork is created using mixed media on wood – clay, glazes and colors – giving depth to trunks, foliage and horizon. The light of sunset crosses the scene, turning the landscape into a natural frame rich in visual poetry.
Colors in images may appear slightly different or more saturated depending on the device used.
The Fiaiano pine forest, located on the slopes of Mount Epomeo, is one of the most beloved places for both locals and visitors. In addition to being a green refuge for the island, it offers one of the most breathtaking views of the Aragonese Castle, appearing on the horizon framed by the deep green of the pines.
This natural setting brings together history and nature: the forest, born after a volcanic eruption, has become a place for walking and relaxation, while the Castle remains a timeless symbol of Ischia.
In this work, the landscape is rendered through a three-dimensional and textured language. Tree trunks and pine canopies emerge in relief, the ground is shaped in clay, and the horizon is bathed in the warm tones of sunset.
May transforms this perspective into a visual narrative that connects landscape and collective memory. It is not just a view, but a way to capture the union of nature, history and contemporary vision.
