In the heart of Forio, among alleys scented with sea and Greek history, Keramos Ceramiche d’Ischia was born, a workshop-studio founded in 1990 by Gaetano De Nigris. The name “Keramos” comes from the ancient Greek κέραμος, meaning “clay” or “vessel”, and represents a direct tribute to the ceramic tradition that has characterized the island of Ischia for centuries.

Their mission? To transform local volcanic earth into authentic works of art: decorated plates, plaques, vases and unique pieces, entirely handcrafted and hand-painted.

The Art of Majolica

Artisanal clay crafting

Everything begins with a mixture of Ischian clay, selected and worked by hand. Each piece is thrown on the wheel and shaped without industrial molds, following a technique that enhances uniqueness and irregularity as a distinctive mark of artisanal authenticity.

Decoration with natural glazes

The decorations are hand-painted using non-toxic mineral glazes, giving Keramos majolica bright, durable colors deeply inspired by the landscapes of sea, citrus groves and volcanic land. Each motif is created by the artist’s hand, not from mass-produced reproductions.

Double firing at 960 °C

The ceramics undergo two firing stages, each at 960 degrees, to ensure durability and strength. This ancient process, carried out with low-energy-impact kilns, preserves the properties of the materials and makes each piece suitable for everyday use.
